plant for the future

The Newport Tree Conservancy is committed to supporting the health and resiliency of trees in Newport, RI. We are connecting our community with their city-wide arboretum, and planting the next generation of Newport’s urban forest.

Tree Planting Programs

To maintain a healthy public tree population in Newport we must plant roughly 120 new trees annually to replace those lost or removed each year due to damage, decay or disease. The Newport Tree Conservancy subsidizes every tree planted in Newport’s public spaces. The maintenance of our amazing urban forest requires steady, vigilant work. We offer three planting programs that invite citizens to join us and the City of Newport in the critical work of maintaining a health urban forest:

Arboreta of Aquidneck Island

Aquidneck Island is home to more accredited arboreta than any other community in the world.

We are proud to live in a community so uniquely and unequivocally dedicated to its legendary trees. The beautiful arboreta in Newport, Middletown, and Portsmouth are helping care for a tree canopy extraordinarily rich in specimen trees on an island whose landscapes narrate the history of American landscape architecture, horticulture, and garden design like no other place in America.
