August Free Tree Walk: Ballard Park

  • Ballard Park Hazard Road Newport, RI, 02840 United States (map)

Join Living Collections Manager Joe Verstandig as we explore shaded trails through the dense woodlands of Ballard Park.

Many interesting plants exist within the confines of the park, including several Aquidneck Island native trees, naturalized plants introduced into Newport through horticulture or by accident, and a fair share of exotic invasives as well. Joe will discuss some tree identification, the history of Newport’s horticulture, and the effect it has had on native ecosystems such as Ballard Park, and remark on many beautiful specimens we’ll see from the trail.

Meeting Location: Ballard Park map kiosk on Wickham Rd

Registration is required and will open on July 20, 2024.
