Join NTC for an Open House at Innovate Newport hosted by The Green Infrastructure Center (GIC) in partnership with the city of Newport to discuss and vote on strategies for the City to promote trees for reducing urban heat, mitigating flood damage, and improving community health.

Newport’s Tree Canopy: The Current State & Future Goal

  • 36% of Newport’s land is covered by impervious surfaces (pavement, concrete, buildings).

  • 19% of the city is covered by trees.

  • Goal: Increase tree cover to 21% over the next decade.
