Tree Walk: Eisenhower Park & Touro Synagogue

  • Washington Square Newport, RI 02840 (map)

Tour the center of Newport’s urban forest with NTC Living Collections Manager Joe Verstandig, as we observe several individual specimen trees thriving downtown.

Washington Square (Eisenhower Park) has historically always been home to stately trees, most notably breathtaking American elms that towered over nearby buildings. We will discuss some history of the site, view some impressive plants extant there, and touch on the science of urban forestry. We will also venture a short way to see some smaller points of interest. Please dress appropriately for a walking tour. Water is encouraged.
