Planting for the Future While Preserving the Past: The Redwood’s European Fernleaf Beech
In partnerships with the Redwood Library & Athenæm, our Collections Curator, Nick Castrataro will discuss the efforts of the Newport Tree Conservancy to preserve the heritage trees that make the City of Newport’s horticultural history so important.

A prime example is the Redwood’s prized European fernleaf beech and the Conservancy’s work to maintain its legacy. Nick will outline the tree’s history and demonstrate the methods of replicating and preserving the living genome of this important tree.
